Decision Reached

I have given up on the idea and concept of working for Americans in the near future. I haven't quite resigned yet, but I made it clear in my last mail that I am strongly considering it. With greater focus on our issues here in Paris, and those that impact us elsewhere, I can do more immediate good in pushing forward to whatever end we're pushed towards.
Obviously, there is a LOT for us to do to get to a point where a republic is feasible, but it IS feasible in future, and the majority of those I speak with do agree. Therefore, it's the rest of the work that needs to be done, and promoted, and made official and important.
And the fact Brian seems to feel the need to treat me like a child because I decided to leave Paris is completely ridiculous as it stands. I'm not going to sit by and let awful things happen when I can call attention to them, now am I? That's a path for others to justify to themselves, if they can or choose to.
Instead, well. There are plenty of other places and people to talk to here. La Lumiere has a good reputation and could probably use more content as it is, Le National without Carrell is still an option once he's out, or I speak to his assistants and...well. More than one fish in the sea so they say.
Let's prove that theory, no?

Date: 2016-05-17 01:04 am (UTC)I'd define most of the issues I come to as being radical but not anarchist (all the more power to the ones that are, but not the thing for me.) If that should be relevant.
Thank you for your time,
Tom

Date: 2016-05-17 01:30 am (UTC)Radical would definitely help with that crowd. We're a mostly political, mostly national coverage paper, but that shouldn't stop non locals either. It's certainly worth a go.

The Lorena Station mess sounds worse the more I hear about it. Does your other editor not want to publish about it? Have you seen the photos of the water quality tests?

And well, Lorena Station WAS a bit of chaos when I last saw it, definitely. I have copies of some photos taken by an absolutely brilliant guy. And no, he really doesn't. It's apparently both too dangerous and not relevant to most of the readership outside of here. The second one, I'll grant. It happens. But the first one...infuriating.
Not the MOST recent. I need to find a way.

Date: 2016-05-17 02:45 am (UTC)Either way, thank you for the advice. I hope your Carrell is released soon. Prison, much like a revolution, is not easy.

Date: 2016-05-17 04:04 am (UTC)I think they'd like you at the Banner, actually. Americans tend to be interested in...largely that sort of thing, I've found. They started up during a labor strike so... It's not a bad place to work for, just a bad place to cover this.
Ah no, it doesn't seem it.

Date: 2016-05-17 04:26 am (UTC)The Banner, you say. I could ask them. The Sitian papers always seem a bit pro Victorian for most writing about Lidavia. Rather awkward when you just want to talk about mining safety and they want to emphasize how much safer the mines are with them.
But that's politics for you.
Stay safe.

Date: 2016-05-17 04:55 am (UTC)And that IS pretty awkward, all things considered. Victoria...is it me or have they kind of ignored the issues surrounding it in general?

Date: 2016-05-17 05:16 am (UTC)Maybe it's some kind of street gang thing? He was poor and on the run like - what's the term. Gamin?
Something like that.
Either way, Victoria taking over Lidavia would probably be as a subordinate colony, versus an equal partnership. Which, if done well, shouldn't be too bad, but I fear the greed for yavanite would mean the land is more important to them than the people. I've seen yavanite boom towns. Your nightly glass of water by the bed glows.

Date: 2016-05-17 06:17 am (UTC)I've heard...Things...about Victoria. About the police force being willing to look the other way if you slip them the right amount of coin. And there's supposedly gangs and...not a good place to grow up on the streets by a long shot.
That IS one of those things, isn't it? Imperialism at its finest with Colonialist roots. I don't suppose we should talk but it's nice to hope people eventually get out of that sort of attitude. I think it's why the stories need to be told.
Lorena...I didn't see much, but I do know the claims weren't good ones.

Date: 2016-05-17 06:22 am (UTC)We could talk? Probably good for me, might be fun for you. What's the Card slogan? All people are citizens and have a right to choose? Better to make that choice informed, you know?
